is grounded in educational theory for 21st century educators and
consistently updated to help you meet the challenges in education with today’s

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education -
Advanced Classroom Instruction
The advanced classroom instruction PhD specialization is designed for licensed,
career K-12 teachers with prior teaching experience who want to excel as highly
qualified master teachers in diverse school settings. The PhD program provides
master teachers with the tools they need to effectively address complex
educational issues and conduct research in aspects of K-12 instruction.
Doctoral learners attend in-person colloquia in addition to their
online courses. Taken during specific milestones in your program, you will
attend three colloquia, each 1-week in length.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education -
Instructional Design for Online Learning
In this online PhD specialization you will gain the knowledge and skills to lead
and manage instructional challenges in a variety of online settings. You will
apply current instructional theory to organize, design, teach, and evaluate
course work according to tested principles for online education.
Doctoral learners attend in-person colloquia in addition to their
online courses. Taken during specific milestones in your program, you will

Leadership for Higher Education
The leadership for higher education PhD specialization is designed for
individuals interested in senior leadership positions in community and technical
colleges and other postsecondary institutions. Learners will develop leadership
skills to successfully lead educational institutions and conduct research in
aspects of higher education leadership. This specialization is ideal for career
administrative professionals that aspire to positions such as academic dean,
provost, or university president.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education -
Leadership in Educational Administration
This state-approved* PhD specialization leads learners (with three years of
licensed teaching experience) toward principal or superintendent licensure in
their home states. This program prepares you to meet nationally recognized
leadership standards, including the Interstate School Leaders Licensure
Consortium (ISLLC). Our program uses a multi-disciplinary learning model
designed to expand your leadership capabilities while providing practical
strategies to increase student achievement. Throughout the program and your
doctoral research, you will develop leadership and problem-solving skills that
will allow you to be a confident, innovative, and accountable administrative
leader.

Postsecondary and Adult Education
The online PhD specialization in postsecondary and adult education will expand
your knowledge in the area of teaching adults. The curriculum focuses on major
theories of adult learning and distance education, and application of theory to
develop effective learning communities. You will develop critical analysis and
research skills, and learn best practices in postsecondary instruction–with
emphasis on creating productive learning environments for individuals from a
variety of backgrounds.

Professional Studies in Education
The professional studies in education PhD specialization is designed for
experienced education professionals who wish to excel as teachers, consultants,
and researchers. This flexible online program provides an opportunity to add
specific content areas to your current expertise through your choice of up to 18
graduate-level electives from any discipline.

Training and Performance Improvement
In this doctoral specialization, you will move theory into practice through
deepening your understanding of the strategic and tactical issues that are
critical to the success of performance improvement interventions. The training
and performance improvement curriculum is based on the American Society of
Training and Development's (ASTD) Human Performance Improvement Model.
