Master of Business Administration The Master of Business Administration program is designed to enhance the management skills students need to function effectively within an organization. Students will create and defend their solutions to problems of crisis management, profitable growth opportunities, and change leadership. Throughout the program, students gain experience in distilling a situation into a well-defined problem; applying tools and concepts to analyze a variety of alternative solutions; and selecting and defending their recommended course of action. The Master of Business Administration program at University of Phoenix utilizes problem-based learning where students refine their problem solving skills along with their communication, creativity, information utilization, and critical thinking skills. They are assessed on the basis of their use of the problem solving process (which employs a general rubric) as well as their communication and critical thinking skills during their presentation. Learning teams will apply the principles of benchmarking throughout the program to research the most creative solutions to a problem. This will enrich the alternatives that learners consider in evaluating possible solutions to the problems. The MBA consists of 39 credit hours and includes three proficiency courses (MBA 501, MBA 502, MBA 503) which may be satisfied using an undergraduate business degree, undergraduate coursework or graduate coursework.

Master of Business Administration/Accounting The Master of Business Administration with a concentration in accounting (MBA/ACC) is designed to develop or enhance the financial management skills necessary to function effectively within private businesses, non-profit organizations, and public agencies. The program concentrates on managing human and fiscal resources within the structure, culture, and mission of any organization. The curriculum addresses advanced costing techniques, accounting theory, accounting information systems, issues in corporate taxation, executive management, budgeting, human resources management, organizational development, conflict management, strategic planning, information management, and decision making, among other subjects.

Master of Business Administration/e-Business The Master of Business Administration/e-Business (MBA/EB) is designed to enhance the management skills needed to function effectively within an organization that is developing e-business applications or is starting out as an e-business. To prepare managers for the emerging e-business marketplace, the University of Phoenix offers a comprehensive MBA/e-Business program to equip managers with the necessary skills to conduct business in an e-business environment. The MBA/EB specialization is based upon courses in e-Business concepts, e-Business technology, and a Seminar in e-Business.

The College of Graduate Business has created interactive, multimedia, case-based simulations that place students in real-world environments and require them to apply critical thinking skills to decision-making situations. Each simulation offers learners the opportunity to identify the information required to solve the problem, assess alternative solutions, and receive feedback on their choices.

The MBA/EB consists of 45 credit hours. Thirty-six credit hours constitute the core curriculum and nine additional credit hours complete the MBA/EB program. The core begins with the three-credit, six-workshop prerequisite- Managerial Communication and Ethics-designed to build strategies for success in the program. The remainder of the core courses focus on using quantitative analysis to formulate and validate business decisions, as well as, using critical-thinking skills in solving business problems.

The final three courses allow students to customize their degree program in the e-business specialization by focusing on current developments, business problems or issues relative to e-business. The principle outcome will be the completion of a master's project introduced in the first of the three specialization courses. The project is completed and presented in the final course of the program.


Master of Business Administration/Global Management Globalization has increased the need for individuals with specialized knowledge and skills necessary to manage multicultural and multinational workforces effectively in a rapidly-changing environment. The Master of Business Administration with a specialization in Global Management (MBA/GM) program has been developed to provide those individuals the opportunity to study in a program specifically designed for their needs as current or future managers.


Master of Business Administration/Human Resources Management The Master in Business Administration with a specialization in Human Resource Management (MBA/HRM) program is designed to meet the needs of a broad but unique population - the working adult manager or supervisor who could benefit from a graduate business education. Because the tools of the human resources management science are applicable to the problems of the public sector as well as the private sector, students whose career interests involve not-for-profit enterprise are also encouraged to seek admission. The MBA/HRM program requires a practical background in business, and the successful candidate will have a least three years of relevant experience.


Master of Business Administration/Marketing Master of Business Administration program with specialization in Marketing (MBA/MKT) program is designed to meet the needs of a broad but unique population - the working adult manager or supervisor who could benefit from a graduate business education. Master of Business Administration/Public Administration The Master of Business Administration/Public Administration program MBA/PA) is designed to enhance the management skills students need to function effectively within an organization. Emphasis is placed on quantitative analysis of business information to improve business decision making. To prepare students for this decision-making role, the MBA/PA has been designed to introduce the theory or principles that frame a wide range of problems or issues in each of the courses. The most current techniques or tools are applied to these theories to allow students to practice making decisions to solve a wide range of problems. The College of Graduate Business and Management has created interactive, multimedia, case-based simulations for its graduate business courses that place students in real-world environments and require them to apply critical thinking skills to decision making situations. Students focus on leadership and management—the human side of an organization. This program emphasizes emerging management theory, techniques, and practices, and incorporates feedback and key competencies from senior business executives, curriculum-design experts, and university academic professionals. The MM program develops management skills in defining business problems, assessing information, considering alternatives, and choosing the best solutions. Graduates attain the skill sets necessary to evaluate and manage the challenges facing contemporary organizations. The MM program consists of 39 credit hours. Master of Arts in Education/Adult Education and Training The Master of Arts/Adult Education and Training Program (MAED/AET) is a 35-credit program of study designed for individuals who wish to develop the skills to work with adult learners in areas such as corporate training, community college instruction, non-profit and community based organizations, human services agencies, or professional development. The program encompasses knowledge of andragogical theory, the needs of diverse learners, critical issues and trends in adult education and training, instructional design and strategies, the use of technologies, and assessment. Master of Arts in Education/Special Education The Master of Arts in Education (MAED) with a specialization in Cross-Categorical Special Education is a graduate degree program preparing candidates for teacher licensure in the field of special education. Candidates for this program have already earned a bachelor’s degree and wish to gain the pedagogical skills and knowledge that will assist them in becoming effective special education educators. The program’s curriculum includes orientation to the exceptional child, foundations and methodologies of mild disabilities, diagnosis and assessment of disabilities, structured English immersion, reading and language arts instruction, inclusion strategies, and collaboration and resource management for the special educator.

Throughout the program, students are required to complete verified field experiences with the focus of each observation relating to specific course content. Documentation will be maintained in the student’s electronic portfolio.

Student teaching is an integral component of the Special Education Program. Student teachers work with a cooperating teacher and with a University of Phoenix faculty advisor during a field-based experience in a cross-categorical special education setting. The student teaching experience is designed to emphasize the achievement of state standards leading to certification and to present individuals with growth opportunities that best prepare them to assume the duties of a certified teacher.

The degree program has a research component as well. This component requires an Action Research Project. The project integrates the theoretical aspects of special education and the practical experience of the adult learner through the identification and exploration of a significant problem related to the student's area of professional responsibilities and interest. Master of Business Administration/Health Care Management The Master of Business Administration with a specialization in Health Care Management (MBA/HCM) is designed to provide students with the business management skills needed to manage successfully in today's health care delivery systems. The MBA/HCM program emphasizes the identification, analysis, and solution of complex management problems with a foundation of health care concepts and decision models that will support the variety of management roles that can be seen in today's health care environment. The MBA/HCM specialization is based upon courses in health care organizations, health care finance, quality and data base management, health care infrastructure, and health care strategic management.


Master of Health Administration The Master of Health Administration (MHA) program prepares leaders who can effectively respond to the dynamic and ever-changing health care industry. Master of Health Administration/Health Care Education This program specialization is designed for health care and nursing professionals interested in pursuing careers in educational or service settings. Master of Science in Nursing/Master of Business Administration/Health Care Management The Master of Science in Nursing/Master of Business Administration/Health Care Management (MSN/MBA/HCM) program is designed to provide nurses with a unique blend of advanced nursing and business management skills needed to manage today's innovative health care delivery systems. The program combines essentials from both degree programs to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to enhance and support patient services. The MSN/MBA/HCM program emphasizes the identification, analysis, and solution of complex management problems that require technical understanding and balanced decision making. Although a functional knowledge of accounting, finance, and management underlies the program, equal attention is given to the development of report writing, oral reporting, and group process skills.

Master of Science in Nursing/Master of Health Administration
The MSN/MHA program is designed to provide nurses with a unique blend of advanced nursing and healthcare related business skills to manage in today’s evolving health care delivery systems. The program combines essential elements from both degree programs to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively examine and evaluate issues and trends impacting health care. The MSN program is designed for those nurses who want to pursue more advanced positions in today’s challenging health care environment. The program blends nursing theory and advanced practice concepts necessary to successful work within the structure, culture, and mission of any size health care organization or educational setting. The MSN program consists of three major areas: the core, the major, and the cognate. The core incorporates the major foci of the Master of Science in Nursing degree: the theory of nursing influence, influence of nursing research, and on the advanced practice of nursing. The major includes advanced course work in nursing: management of families and aggregates, administration, and education. The cognate is fulfilled through the MHA program content. The MHA curriculum focuses on the content related to finance, economics, policy, quality improvement, marketing, and strategic planning. In addition, students complete course work in concepts related to public health, long term care and health care informatics. Graduates will have enhanced their management/administrative backgrounds through a curriculum that provides students with the ability to apply theory to contemporary practice applications. RN to MSN or MSN/FNP Bridge BSN Equivalency Requirement RNs starting the Master of Science in Nursing program or the Master of Science in Nursing/Family Nurse Practitioner program with a Bachelor's degree in an area other than nursing must complete the following courses in order to be admitted to the graduate program. All of these required bridge courses may be taken by independent direct study. They must be taken prior to any graduate level (500 level) nursing courses.

Master of Science in Counseling/Community Counseling The Master of Counseling program is designed to meet the needs of the working adult professional who will benefit from a graduate education in counseling. Because counseling and jobs requiring the skills of counselors are expected to grow in both the public and private sectors throughout the 1990's, students from a variety of settings and backgrounds should find the interpersonal, communication, and therapeutic skills offered in this program useful in advancing their careers. The Community Counseling and Marriage, Family and Child Counseling Programs have a 51-credit requirement for graduation. Marriage and Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling programs, where available, have a 60-credit requirement. Coursework is completed in the order determined by the University. The University reserves the right to modify and/or resequence coursework as necessary. All courses in the major course of study must be satisfactorily completed to be eligible for graduation.

Master of Science in Counseling/Marriage and Family Counseling The Master of Science in Counseling degree program with a specialization in Marriage and Family Counseling provides the required knowledge and skills for students to become competent and ethical practitioners. The MSC/MFC specialization provides a needed service to the community through collaboration with agencies and institutions and their personnel and through the provision of continuing counselor education and programming. Students are involved in a variety of educational and clinical activities that prepare them to help their clients to achieve their potential. The program encompasses foundations of counseling and guidance including theories and their application with groups and individuals, assessment and evaluation, counseling and consultative relationships, career planning for students, and program development, implementation, and evaluation. The program addresses critical issues facing counselors and offers supervised clinical experiences. 54 credits.

Master of Science in Psychology The Master of Psychology program focuses on the general rather than clinical psychological study of individuals, including their behaviors, thought processes, and emotions. The program will provide supervisors and managers in business, marketing, human resources, government services or education with an understanding of the cognitive and affective processes that underlie the individual human experience and behavior; research methodologies by which this knowledge is acquired; critical thinking and problem solving necessary to evaluate behavior; and the application of theoretical principles to inter- and intra-personal issues.

Master of Science/Administration of Justice and Security The Master of Science: Administration of Justice and Security degree provides the required knowledge for the student to develop competence in administering criminal justice or security programs. While distinctions between the roles of justice and security organizations are understood, the degree emphasizes an understanding of administrative responsibilities common to both disciplines. The value of cooperative interaction is also addressed. The degree provides the student with administrative program development and problem solving skills in preparation for promotional or transitional opportunities in the management of police, corrections, security or court operations.
